The Flight Attendant Jump Seat

Definitely not the most comfortable seat on the aircraft the stowable cabin crew jump seat is an office seat, safety seat and even a place to take a well deserved five minute break on a flight! Assigned to every crew member operating on a flight and generally located at crew stations near a cabin door, the crew station is equipped for the Flight Attendants routine duties such as passenger service and cabin operations but also in the event of having to handle an emergency situation.

At the crew station they are mounted to the floor or a cabin bulkhead. Often jump seats will also carry or stow the emergency equipment the crew member may need in the event of an emergency, as well as the passenger safety demo kit. For training purposes crew must be familiar with the use of the jump seat, the operation of the harness and the location of the relevant safety equipment. Often the crew seat will have a cabin PA/Handset mounted for station to station communications as well as passenger announcements during take off and landing and the flight itself.

The crew seats are not generally supplied with emergency equipment, although this is readily available from stock and the aircraft cabin PA/Interphone handsets can be supplied too.
